An Air India flight was forced to return to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) shortly after takeoff on Monday, December 22. According to a statement from the airline, the flight was scheduled to fly from Delhi to Mumbai.

According to an Air India spokesperson quoted by news agency ANI, flight AI887 from Delhi to Mumbai faced a technical issue after take-off, after which the plane landed back in Delhi.

The spokesperson stated that the plane landed in Delhi as per standard operating procedures (SOPs). All passengers and crew on board are safe and have disembarked and alternative arrangements are being made.

A few days back, an Air India Express flight operating from Jeddah to Kozhikode, carrying 160 passengers, made an emergency landing at Cochin International Airport after encountering issues related to its landing gear and tyre failure, an official said.

“All emergency services were activated in advance, and there were no injuries reported among passengers or crew. Post-landing inspection confirmed that both right-side tyres had burst,” a CIAL spokesperson said.

Cochin International Airport Limited said Air India Express flight IX 398 was diverted to Kochi as a precaution after a fault was detected in the right main landing gear. The aircraft landed safely at 9:07 am under full emergency conditions, following which the runway was cleared and reopened for normal operations.

The incident caused no additional disruption to scheduled flights, as authorities ensured the situation was handled safely and efficiently.
