After the mass flight cancellations from Vistara early last month, now more than 70 flights were cancelled by Air India Express from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. Both international and domestic flights were called off after the senior crew members of the airline went on mass 'sick leave', news agency ANI reported citing sources.
Currently, the matter is being looked into by the Civil Aviation authorities. Responding to the flight cancellations, a spokesperson for Air India Express, said the teams are actively addressing this issue to minimise any inconvenience caused to the passengers.

"A section of our cabin crew has reported sick at the last minute, starting last night, resulting in flight delays and cancellations. While we are engaging with the crew to understand the reasons behind these occurrences, our teams are actively addressing this issue to minimise any inconvenience caused to our guests as a result," Air India Express Spokesperson said.
Seeking apologies for the inconvenience, the spokesperson stated that the passengers impacted by the cancellations will either receive a full refund from the airline or be allowed to reschedule their flight without any extra charges.
"We sincerely apologise to our guests for this unexpected disruption and emphasise that this situation does not reflect the standard of service we strive to provide. Guests impacted by cancellations will be offered a full refund or complimentary rescheduling to another date. Guests flying with us today are requested to check if their flight is affected, before heading to the airport," he added.
In 2023, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gave its go-ahead to the Tata Group's initiative to merge the budget airline AIX Connect (previously known as AirAsia India) with Air India Express. IANS citing sources reported that the senior employees, including the cabin crew, are unhappy with the changes.
