An Air India flight heading to Delhi had to make an emergency return to Kolkata on Thursday evening, shortly after take-off, following a medical emergency involving a passenger. The incident took place soon after the aircraft resumed its journey from a scheduled halt in Kolkata.

Flight AI 186 was operating on the Vancouver–Kolkata–Delhi route and had landed in Kolkata as part of a planned technical stopover. The aircraft, carrying 162 passengers and crew, took off from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport, but was forced to return around 25 minutes into the flight after one of the passengers started feeling unwell.

"The passenger was not feeling well and therefore the aircraft came back so that the passenger could be provided with medical help," an Air India spokesperson said.

An official from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that the plane was diverted back at 6:20 pm and landed in Kolkata shortly after 7 pm. Upon arrival, the airline had arranged for immediate medical assistance, including doctors and an ambulance, as requested by the flight’s pilots.
