Delhi Air Pollution: A thick layer of haze engulfed the national capital and its surrounding area as air quality continued to be in the severe category on Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted shallow fog for today. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 30 and 17 degrees Celsius respectively, it said.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), several areas of Delhi were recorded in the severe category on Sunday morning. AQI in Aya Nagar stands at 464, in Dwarka Sector-8 at 486, in Jahangirpuri at 463 and around IGI Airport (T3) the AQI stands at 480.

Manohar Lal, a morning walker in Lodhi Garden, expressed concern over deteriorating air quality and said it is difficult to breathe these days. "The situation of pollution is extremely poor. It is difficult to breathe these days. Several people used to come to Lodhi Garden earlier, but now only 10% of people are coming here. Pollution is at its maximum this year..." Lal told ANI.

"The situation of pollution is such that we are experiencing a burning sensation in our eyes. The situation was better earlier, but now it is getting worse.." Ajay, another morning walker in Lodhi Garden, said. 

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
