Air Quality Post Diwali: Post Diwali celebrations on October 31 and November 1, several cities across India are reeling under deteriorating air quality. The issue of pollution was not limited to the national capital; several other cities across India, including Punjab, Haryana, and metropolises like Chennai and Mumbai, reported similar conditions, with smog and poor air quality causing severe impacts on large areas. According to the CPCB data, significant pollution levels, especially after Diwali celebrations, raise concerns about air quality and potential health impacts nationwide.
Delhi AQI
Delhi's air quality has been deteriorating daily, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) surpassing 600 in several areas. This morning, AQI in Anand Vihar was recorded at 624, marking it the season's worst level so far. Meanwhile, the overall air quality in the national capital stood at 434 as of 6 am today.
AQI levels across several areas on Monday (as of 6 am):
Anand Vihar - 624 (hazardous)
Alipur - 343 (hazardous)
Punjabi Bagh - 365 (hazardous)
Narela - 324 (very poor)
RK Puram - 330 (hazardous)
Bawana - 406 (hazardous)
ITI Shahdara - 394 (hazardous)
In the latest air quality parameters post-Diwali, Mumbai, Pune And Nagpur have shown the worst performance with PM2.5 levels surging over 50 per cent in Mumbai. Areas like Sewri and Malad West saw the highest spikes. The trend was seen in Pune too, with major increases in Hadapsar and Shivaji Nagar. Nagpur’s Ram Nagar and Ambazari recorded over 80 per cent increases, indicating persistent pollution sources, according to a study.
Pune AQI
The AQI in Pune today stands at 188, indicating moderate air quality in the city.
Mumbai AQI
The AQI in Mumbai today stands at 259, falling in the poor category. Children and people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, should stay indoors and others should also limit their outdoor activities.
Gurugram AQI
The AQI in Gurugram today stands at 500, falling in the hazardous category. Everyone should remain cautious and limit their outdoor activities. The usage of masks and air purifying devices is highly advised.
Noida AQI
The AQI in Noida today stands at 500, again falling in thehazardouscategory.
Kolkata AQI
The AQI in Kolkata today stands at 387, falling in the very poor category. Everyone should be cautious. Children and people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, should stay indoors and others should also limit their outdoor activities.
Bengaluru AQI
The AQI in Bangalore today stands at 56.0, indicating fine air quality in the city. People with respiratory issues should be cautious, especially while planning outdoor activities. However, others can engage in regular outdoor activities.
Hyderabad AQI
The AQI in Hyderabad today stands at 195, indicating moderate air quality in the city. Children and people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor activity. Being aware of the AQI helps one make informed decisions regarding one's overall well-being while planning the day’s activities.
