Badaruddin Ajmal, the chief of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has advised the Muslim community in Assam to refrain from train travel during the month to avoid “any untoward incident” ahead of the inauguration of Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir. The consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir is scheduled for January 24, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to preside over the event. The ceremony is expected to draw more than 60,000 attendees.

Speaking during a political campaign in Assam's Barpeta district, Ajmal, who is also the MP for Dhubri, cautioned Muslims to stay at home from January 20 to 25 to avoid any potential untoward incidents. He expressed concerns about the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) elaborate plans, including special trains, flights, and buses, to transport people to the Ram Mandir inauguration.

"They (Bharatiya Janata Party) have booked special trains, flights, and buses to bring people to Ram Mandir; they have big plans. I urge our Muslim brothers not to travel from January 20 to 24-25," Ajmal stated during the campaign.
AIUDF, which plans to contest three out of 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam in the upcoming general elections, has begun conducting meetings across these constituencies. Ajmal accused the BJP of being against Islamic religious beliefs and laws, particularly citing their opposition to triple talaq.
“They are enemy of our lives, our pride, mosques, and the modesty of Muslim women. Our laws are based on Quran but they are interfering in that too,” he said.
Ajmal is the representative for the minority-dominated Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency in Assam. His party AIUDF contested the 2021 assembly elections in alliance with the Congress, but the alliance broke later.
