The central government has reappointed former IPS officer Ajit Doval as the National Security Adviser (NSA), according to an official order. The order also added that his appointment will be co-terminus with the term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or until further orders.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ajit Doval, IPS (Retired) as National Security Adviser with effect from 10.06.2024," said the order issued by the Personnel Ministry.

He will be assigned the rank of cabinet Minister in the Table of Precedence during his term of office, adding that the terms and conditions of his appointment will be notified separately.
Besides Doval, centre has also e-appointed former IAS officer P K Mishra as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Personnel Ministry order said. His appointment will come into effect from June 10, 2024, it said.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr P.K. Mishra, IAS (Retired) as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister with effect from 10.06.2024. His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders whichever is earlier," the order said.
Doval is a 1968 batch IPS officer who is known for his strategic thinking and operational planning for the PM. He is a well-known counter-terrorism expert and an expert on nuclear issues.
Mishra is a 1972 batch officer who has been with PM Modi for the past decade after he retired as the Agriculture Secretary to the GOI.
Both the senior officers are the most trusted of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and have been associated with him even before he took over the top post in 2014.
