Ajit Pawar Plane Crash: The two cockpit crew members on the chartered plane that crashed near Baramati Airport in Maharashtra were heard saying "oh s***" moments before the accident. The plane went down just 200 metres from the edge of the tabletop runway on Wednesday, killing Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others.
The 16-year-old Learjet aircraft, operated by VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd, crashed while attempting a second landing approach at the airport, which is an uncontrolled airfield where traffic information is typically provided by instructors and pilots from local flying training organisations.
A senior official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) told NDTV that "last words heard from the crew were "oh s***''.
Meanwhile, the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder of the Learjet aircraft were recovered, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said on Thursday. The forensic and investigating teams are on the crash sites. The voice recorder and flight data recorder are crucial devices to determine the cause of the crash.
An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered by the Pune Rural Police at the Baramati Taluka Police Station in connection with the crash. The Pune Rural Police have initiated further investigation into the matter.
The death of the 66-year-old leader, affectionately known as Dada (elder brother) in the state, has not only left a vacuum in the BJP-led state coalition government, but also cast a shadow over the future of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which he led.
The other victims were Captain Sumit Kapoor, who had 15,000 hours of flying experience, co-pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, with 1,500 flying hours, Personal Security Officer (PSO) Vidip Jadhav, and flight attendant Pinky Mali.
