Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday lashed out at the BJP-led Centre over the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday in the Delhi excise policy case, saying that “100 crore people are against the party.”
"Government thinks - arrest those who are against, arrest politicians, arrest journalists. First journalists were arrested and then Sanjay Singh was arrested. BJP should understand that 100 crore people are against them. In the 2024 elections, 100 crore people will be against them. Will they arrest the 100 crore people?” Yadav was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The Samajwadi Party chief further asserted that the people of India and opposition parties will defeat the BJP in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money laundering case linked with the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy.
On Thursday, Delhi’s Rouse Revenue Court sent Singh to ED custody till October 10 in connection with the alleged liquor case. However, Singh refuted the allegations against him and said, “False and baseless allegations, we are not scared, we will fight back.
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also slammed the ruling BJP over Sanjay Singh's arrest and accused the BJP of misusing independent investigative agencies for political gains against the INDIA bloc leaders.
Stalin took to X, formerly known as Twitter and wrote, "The Union BJP Government's vindictive politics knows no bounds! Arresting AAP MP Sanjay Singh and raiding DMK MP Jagathrakshakan's home are clear examples of their misuse of independent investigating agencies for political ends against I.N.D.I.Bloc leaders."
“This deliberate persecution of opposition leaders is an assault on democracy. The BJP conveniently forgets that the Supreme Court has just warned the ED to be transparent and fair. But it seems they are hell-bent on disregarding the rule of law and democracy," he further wrote on X.
This was the third arrest of the AAP leader in the case following former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s arrest.
