Azam Khan Tax Evasion News: The Income Tax raid on Samajwadi Party stalwart Azam Khan continued for the third day on September 15. The raids are part of a tax evasion probe against Azam Khan in the Al Jauhar Trust case, related to the lease for a 3.24-acre land in Rampur provided by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The Al Jauhar Trust received a 30-year lease to set up a research institute for just Rs 100 per year. However, the research institute was never built and the Yogi Adityanath government cancelled the contract on the grounds of irregularities early this year.

In the raids at Azam Khan's residence, documents related to the Al Jauhar trust were also scanned by the officials. The police also scanned documents at Saeed Khan's house, an accountant at the Jauhar university. Raids were also conducted at Azam Khan's Humsafar resort and at the residence of SP MLA Naseer Ahmad Khan, Late Rakesh Jain and Shavez khan.

The university was built in 2015 when the Samajwadi Party was in power in the state. The estimated cost of construction at that time was Rs 2,000 crore and the government asked to pay 1 per cent labour cess on it, that is, Rs 20 crore. Azam Khan, however, revolted against this and the cost of construction was brought down to Rs 147 crore during BJP's regime.

The university was sealed for a while for not paying the labour cess. However, it was later reopened upon the payment of the cess. The Labor Department has provided all this information regarding the labour cess to the IT officials.
