A Delhi Court on Thursday granted protection to AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan from any coercive action until February 24, amid Delhi Police's ongoing manhunt for him following a fresh FIR. However, the court instructed the re-elected Okhla MLA to appear for the investigation. The court also directed the police to conduct the interrogation under CCTV surveillance.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the AAP MLA sent a letter attached to an email to the Delhi Police, claiming that he was not absconding and was still in his assembly constituency. In the letter, he stated that he was being falsely implicated in a case. However, the police have denied any knowledge of such an email or letter.
The Southeast District Police have already issued two notices at the MLA's house to join the investigation, but he has not yet come forward. Teams from the Special Cell and Crime Branch are continuously conducting raids to ascertain his whereabouts.
On Wednesday, Amanatullah Khan sent an email to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora. In the email, it is claimed that the attached letter mentions he is not absconding and is in his constituency. He further stated that the police are framing him in a false case. Khan said the person whom the Delhi Police had come to arrest had already been granted bail. When this person showed his documents, the police, in an attempt to cover up their mistake, are falsely implicating him in a case.
Southeast District Police Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kumar Singh stated that they have no information about any email or letter sent by Amanatullah Khan. He mentioned that the police had issued two notices at Khan's residence to join the investigation, but he has not participated.
Additionally, teams from the Special Cell and Crime Branch are conducting raids in search of him. Teams have gone to areas in and around Delhi, but no trace of him has been found.
