Amarnath Yatra 2025: Amarnath Yatra has been suspended on July 17 from both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps due to continuous rain over the last two days. Torrential rain has called for urgent repair and maintenance work on both the Yatra tracks.

Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has deployed men and machinery to carry out the necessary repair work on the tracks. The Amarnath Yatra is expected to resume on July 18, pending favourable weather conditions.

This urgent call for repair work comes after a woman pilgrim died and three sustained injuries along the Baltal Yatra route in Ganderbal district. Four pilgrims were washed downhill by a landslide at Railpathri along the Baltal axis to the holy cave on Wednesday evening, the officials said.

“Due to the continuous rains over the last couple of days, urgent repair and maintenance works are required to be carried out on the tracks. Therefore, it has been decided that no movement shall be allowed towards the Holy Cave from the two base camps today," Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said.

"However, yatris who stayed at Panchtarni camp during the preceding night are being allowed to proceed down to Baltal under adequate deployment of BRO and Mountain Rescue Teams. The Yatra shall resume in all likelihood tomorrow, depending upon the weather conditions during the course of the day. So far, over 2.47 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Holy Cave Shrine during the Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2025,” he added.

A total of 1,01,553 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp for the valley since July 2, when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch. More than 4 lakh people have registered online for the pilgrimage so far.
