Ambedkar Jayanti Holiday: The government of Uttar Pradesh has declared a public holiday on April 14, 2025, to mark the 134th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's office confirmed that the day will be observed with full state honours to celebrate the contributions of the architect of the Indian Constitution.

In preparation for the celebrations, the state government has organised a series of events and cleanliness initiatives across all districts. A special cleaning campaign is scheduled for April 13, aimed at ensuring all parks, statues and memorials dedicated to Dr Ambedkar are clean and ready for the tribute ceremonies taking place the following day.

On April 14, officials, employees and local public representatives will gather to pay their respects at various memorials and statues of Dr Ambedkar. They will offer flowers and garlands as a sign of honour and gratitude. The Chief Secretary has instructed Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates to actively participate in the ceremonies, involving public representatives, intellectuals and students to ensure a respectful and inclusive celebration.

Ambedkar Jayanti, also known as Bhim Jayanti, is celebrated annually on April 14 to honour Dr B.R. Ambedkar, a prominent social reformer and jurist. This year, the occasion falls on a Monday and will be widely observed across the country, especially in states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.

As a public holiday, many services will be closed, including schools, colleges, banks and government offices in several states. The central government has officially designated April 14 as a public holiday, which is also reflected in the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar.

On this day, banks will remain closed in states such as Tripura, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Chandigarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Assam. However, banks will continue operations in Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh.

Despite the closure of physical branches, customers can still access digital banking services, including internet and mobile banking.

In Uttar Pradesh, government offices will observe the holiday and similar announcements have been made for Delhi by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

Ambedkar Jayanti Holiday: Dry Day In Maharashtra, Delhi

A dry day has been declared in Maharashtra, Bengaluru, and Delhi in honour of Ambedkar Jayanti.

Furthermore, both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be closed on this date, with all trading activities suspended for the day.
