As heavy rainfall continues to cause severe flooding and waterlogging in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with the chief ministers of both states on Sunday. He assured them of the Centre's full support in addressing the situation.

Heavy rains continued to affect various parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, on Sunday. Chief Minister Reddy also convened an emergency meeting with ministers, officials, and public representatives to assess the situation.

In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, unprecedented rainfall over the past two days has disrupted normal life in several areas, particularly around Vijayawada. 

Approximately 17,000 people have been evacuated across the state. Sources reported that the Union Home Minister contacted the chief ministers of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to review the impact of the heavy rains and floods, assuring them of the Central government's full support.

Flash Flood Warning Issued In Telangana

Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar posted on X that he has briefed the Union Home Minister about the severe situation in Telangana's Khammam. Following these instructions, nine National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been sent to Telangana to assist with the crisis.

The Telangana government has issued a flash flood risk warning for 19 districts, advising residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. A low to moderate flash flood risk is anticipated in Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy districts.

Heavy Rainfall In Andhra Pradesh Causes 9 Deaths

In Andhra Pradesh, the villages of Ambapuram, Nainavaram, Nunna, and Pathapadu in Vijayawada Rural Mandal have been completely submerged. Police and NDRF teams have started rescue and relief operations, moving affected residents to rehabilitation centres.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha reported that 13,227 people have been evacuated from 294 villages across five districts, according to news agency PTI.
