Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security meeting on Saturday to assess the situation in Manipur. The discussion focused on ensuring stability in the state, tackling security concerns, and implementing measures to restore normalcy in the northeastern state.

During the meeting, Amit Shah directed officials to allow free movement on all roads in Manipur starting March 8. He emphasized that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to create disruptions or block public passage.

“Free movement must be ensured for people on all roads in Manipur from March 8, and strict action be taken against anyone attempting to create obstructions. " The Union government remains fully committed to restoring lasting peace in Manipur and providing all necessary assistance in this regard”, Amit Shah emphasized.

To strengthen border security, he urged officials to start fencing work along Manipur’s international border, especially at designated entry points. He also stressed the need for firm action against extortion cases and called for a complete dismantling of drug networks to make Manipur drug-free.

“Strict action should continue to be taken in all cases of extortion. Fencing work on both sides of the designated entry points along Manipur's international border should be completed at the earliest,” the Home Minister remarked.

The meeting also addressed the surrender of illegal and looted weapons held by various groups. Shah reiterated that these efforts are essential to bring back peace and stability to the state.

This was Amit Shah’s first security review since President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13, following the resignation of N Biren Singh as chief minister. With the state assembly placed under suspended animation, the central government remains focused on stabilizing the region and improving security measures.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, was attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, senior officials from the Manipur government, top army officers, and senior paramilitary officials.
