Ex-NITI Aayog Chairman Amitabh Kant has taken a veiled dig at the Lokpal after purchasing a brand-new Mahindra EV, saying that those wanting to buy BMWs should switch over to the India-made EV experience, as it will elevate them to another level.

In a post on X, Kant shared the picture of himself standing beside his new Mahinda XEV9. He wrote, "I have just switched to the Mahindra XEV9, embracing born electric mobility. It has a highly innovative design, advanced EV technology & superb driving performance."

"Delighted to contribute to India’s journey towards a greener future while supporting #MakeInIndia innovation and manufacturing. The shift to EVs is not just about vehicles - it is about powering India’s progress with cleaner air, advanced technology, and a robust domestic industry."

"Those wanting to buy BMWs should switch over to the Make In India EV experience. It will elevate you to another level," he added.

A tender cancellation suggestion

In an earlier post, he had reasoned that Lokpal should cancel the tender and go for 'Make In India' EVs. He also listed some models of Mahinda and Tata like XEV 9E, BE 6 And Harrier EV.

His remarks are largely seen in connection with a recent controversy around Lokpal's tender to buy 7 BMW cars for nearly Rs 70 lakh each. The anti-corruption watchdog's decision has courted controversy as people have argued on social media whether public money should be spent in this manner.
