Amritpal Brother Arrested: Harpreet Singh, the brother of jailed radical Sikh preacher and Khadur Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, has been arrested for the alleged possession of drugs, police informed on Friday. He was arrested in Punjab's Jalandhar district.

"Three people identified as Lovepreet, Harpreet and Sandeep Arora have been arrested. They have been arrested last night. 4 grams of Ice (synthetic drug) have been recovered," SSP (Jalandhar Rural) Ankur Gupta said.

It is worth mentioning that Amritpal, who contested the recent Lok Sabha election from jail and remains incarcerated as of yet, was projected mainly as an anti-drug crusader during his poll campaign. The 'Waris Punjab De' chief is presently lodged in Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA).

The Khalistan ideologue won the Lok Sabha election from Khadoor Sahib as an Independent candidate and took oath as a parliamentarian last week. Soon after his oath-taking ceremony, Amritpal's mother had made a statement to the media wherein she said her son was not a proponent of Khalistan -- a proposed nation sought by Sikh secessionists.

While speaking to the media, Balwinder Kaur had said, "Does speaking about Punjab, saving the youth of Punjab make him a Khalistani supporter? He contested the election within the ambit of the Constitution and now he should not be called [a Khalistani supporter]. He has taken an oath of the Constitution of India."

A day later, Amritpal publicly disassociated himself from his mother's statement, in an admonishing manner no less. In a written statement released through his team, the Khadoor Sahib MP said, "I have said many times while speaking from the stage that if I had to choose between Panth and family, I would always choose the Panth." The statement attributed to Amritpal further said, "I warn my family of even thinking about compromising on the Sikh state."
