The Shambhu border, located on the amritsar-Delhi highway, has been closed today on Friday from 7:00 am and will remain closed until 6:30 pm. The Punjab and Haryana administration took this decision due to the announcement of a protest march from the Shambhu barrier by the Qaumi Insaf Morcha and farmer unions.
The QaumiInsaf Morcha and farmer organisations announced this protest march to Delhi to express resentment over the non-release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentences. As part of this, there is also a program to offer 'Ardas' (prayers) at a Gurudwara Sahib in Delhi. However, no permission has been received from the administration for this protest march.
Farmers Gather At Shambhu Border
As per their announcement, members of the QaumiInsaf Morcha and farmer organisations will gather at the Shambhu border today between 9:00 am and 10:00 am, from where they have planned to march to Delhi. Meanwhile, to stop this protest march, barricading has been done by the police administration on both the Punjab and Haryana sides.
The Punjab Police has deployed around 125 barricades at the Shambhu border within Punjab's limits, and 500 police personnel will also be present at the spot. Prior to this, continuous patrolling is also being conducted by the Punjab Police on the National Highway as a security measure.
District Administration Designates Alternative Routes
In view of the Shambhu border closure, the Patiala district administration has designated some alternative routes for traveling from Punjab to Haryana.
During this time, traffic is being diverted via the Fatehgarh Sahib-Landra-Airport Chowk, Mohali-Dera Bassi-ambala, Rajpura-Banur-Zirakpur-Dera Bassi-ambala, Rajpura-Ghanaur-ambala-Delhi Highway, Patiala-Ghanaur-ambala-Delhi Highway, and Banur-Manauli Surat-Lehli-Lalru-ambala routes.
