Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express Fire: The Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express train caught fire near Sirhind railway station, Punjab on Saturday morning. The railway authorities said the fire broke out around 7:30 AM when the train (number 12204) was coming from Amritsar. Several coaches of the train were gutted.  There was no casualty in the incident, officials said.

Major Train Accident Averted 

A major train accident was averted near Sirhind railway station when the fire broke out in the Garib Rath Express train travelling from Amritsar to Saharsa, just half a kilometre ahead of Ambala. The train was halted immediately after smoke was seen billowing from one of the coaches. Firefighters brought the blaze under control soon after.

What GRP Said On Fire Incident

No casualties were reported as passengers were evacuated in time, said Sirhind GRP SHO Ratan Lal, adding three coaches were damaged in the incident.

According to police, the passengers were safely evacuated after spotting smoke in one of the AC coaches of the train. Officials called the fire tenders immediately. They put out the fire, which was spread across three coaches.

The officials said that soon after the fire was noticed, the railway authorities shifted the passengers of the affected coach to other coaches. The train will leave for its destination shortly, they said at the spot.

On the cause of the fire, the officials said it is a mattter of a investigation.
