The Andaman and Nicobar Islands were hit by a strong 6.2 earthquake early Tuesday, according to the National Center for Seismology. The tremors in the region were felt at 00.11 am, at a depth of 10 km, it said. There was no loss of life or damage to property due to the earthquake.

The quake was confirmed by Reuters, which quoted the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). Earlier on Friday, an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 had struck the Andaman Sea, as reported by the National Center of Seismology. The tremors were recorded in the middle of the Andaman Sea at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Earthquake In Russia 

Earlier, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the east coast of the Kamchatka region in Russia on July 22, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said. The quake was at a depth of 28 km (17.4 miles), EMSC said. The Kamchatka Peninsula is the meeting point of the Pacific and North American tectonic plates, making it a seismic hot zone.

On July 20, magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck near the coast of the Kamchatka region in the far east of Russia, earthquake monitoring agencies said. The earthquake struck off the east coast of Kamchatka at a depth of 10 km, shortly after a previous quake, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) data.
