In a tragic incident, three engineering students were swept away by strong currents while they were taking a bath at Chirala beach in Andhra Pradesh's Bapatla district on Sunday, said a police official.
According to the police, a group of seven students had come from Telangana at the Chirala Beach. The officials added that they went for a swim at the beach around 5:30 pm. Moments later, three of them were swept away.
Speaking about the unfortunate incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bapatla district B Umamaheshwar said, "Three students were swept away by high currents in the Bay of Bengal at Chirala beach while enjoying a sea bath".
The Bapatil SP added that two of the students were from Hyderabad and one was from Jadcherla in Telangana.
SP Umamaheshwar further said that a case has been registered under the relevant sections, and the investigation was underway. He added that the police are taking precautions to prevent such incidents in the future.
Earlier, on September 19, three individuals swept away in a rain-related incidents in Rayachoti town of Andhra Pradesh's Annamayya district.
A 28-year-old woman, Sheik Munni, and her minor son were washed away in heavy rainwater flow at the SM Colony area of the town.

Munni stepped out of her home to fetch a candle as there was a power cut. But the stone slab paved over the drainage in front of her house broke due to which she fell into the heavily flowing drain with her minor son.
Seeing her sweeping away, her neighbour Ganesh (25) rushd to rescue but he himself got washed away and all three died.
