The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest and trial court order remanding him to the custody of the probe agency in the Excise Policy Case. The federal probe agency has been asked to file a reply in seven days. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna has posted the matter for hearing on July 17.
Delhi Chief Minister had also challenged a June 26 trial court order which gave his custody to the CBI for three days.

Kejriwal was on June 29 sent to judicial custody until July 12 in a corruption case by the trial court. The court stated that his name had emerged as one of the main conspirators and the probe was underway, therefore his custody was necessary. Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 26 from the Tihar jail, where he was in judicial custody till July 3 in a related money-laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The CBI said the Delhi CM evaded questions when he was being interrogated by them. The federal probe agency said Kejriwal might influence witnesses if he gets released. Besides, the court warned the probe agency to not be ‘overzealous’ while probing the case.
“Investigation is the prerogative of the investigating agency, however, there are certain safeguards provided in the law and at this stage, on the material on record, it cannot be said that the arrest is illegal. The agency, however, should not be overzealous,” the trial court had said.
Delhi liquor policy case has hung around the neck of senior AAP leaders like an albatross. Former Delhi deputy CM and Kejriwal's close raise Manish Sisodia is also serving a jail sentence in the case. Party's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was also arrested by the ED. However, he was released later.
