Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal has written to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Rajiv Kumar, demanding a halt to any further deletions from the electoral list in Delhi. The former Delhi Chief Minister stated that this request was made to protect the integrity of the electoral process, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) allegedly sought mass deletions ahead of next year’s assembly elections.
Kejriwal explained that his party had selected a sample of 500 names from the 11,000 individuals reportedly submitted by the BJP for deletion. According to AAP’s findings, 372 of these individuals were still residing at the same address listed in the electoral roll. Furthermore, Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to manipulate election results in Shahdara.

Earlier today, Kejriwal met with the Election Commission and presented the letter to the Chief Election Commissioner. While addressing the media, Kejriwal stated that AAP had submitted 3,000 pages of evidence to the Election Commission, alleging that the BJP was engaged in a large-scale effort to remove votes of Delhi residents.

Kejriwal further claimed that most of the votes being deleted belonged to poor, Scheduled Castes, Dalit communities, and people living in slums. He emphasised that for ordinary citizens, a single vote is of great importance, as it grants them citizenship in the country.

The former Chief Minister also alleged that a BJP official in Shahdara had secretly submitted a list of 11,008 voters for deletion, with the Election Commission beginning work on this issue covertly, as mentioned in the letter.

"In Janakpuri, 24 BJP workers applied to remove 4,874 votes. In Tughlakabad, 15 BJP workers sought the deletion of 2,435 votes. At Booth No. 117 in Tughlakabad, there are 1,337 registered voters, yet two individuals applied to delete 554 votes--this means they attempted to remove 40% of votes from a single booth," he claimed.
In conclusion, Arvind Kejriwal calls for an immediate halt to these mass deletions and urged the filing of FIRs against those submitting such applications.
