Ashok Tanwar Joins Congress: Days ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suffered a major setback. Ashok Tanwar, who joined the BJP in January this year, left the BJP at Rahul Gandhi's rally on Thursday. During this, Rahul Gandhi welcomed Tanwar to the party on the stage itself.

He joined the BJP on January 20 this year in the presence of former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.

Ashok Tanwar lost the 2024 Indian general election from Sirsa to Kumari Selja of the Indian National Congress by a margin of over 2.50 lakh votes. Before joining the BJP, Tanwar left Congress in 2019 and joined the AAP in 2022. After this, he joined the BJP and now once again went to Grand Old Party. Ashok Tanwar's joining the Congress will affect many seats in the election. He is a veteran leader of Haryana, and his joining Congress can play a big role in the Hisar and Sirsa seats in the poll-bound Haryana. In such a situation, the BJP may have to face losses on these seats.

A Look At Political Journey Of Ashok Tanwar

Ashok Tanwar has been the former President of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee. He has also been the former president of NSUI, the student body of Congress. He was the youngest person to become the President of the Indian Youth Congress. Tanwar has been part of several political outfits including BJP and reportedly TMC as well for a very brief period.

From JNUSU Student Union Candidate To Back In Congress

Ashok Tanwar came into the limelight when he contested the election for the president of JNU's Students Union. He became the Secretary of NSUI in 1999 and its President in 2003. But his real face shone when he won the Lok Sabha election from Sirsa, Haryana, in 2009 as a candidate of the Congress Party by a margin of 3,54,999 votes. After this, he lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate to Charanjit Singh Rori of the Indian National Lok Dal.

Political leader Tanwar was born in a farmer family in Chimni, in the Jhajjar district of Haryana. His father's name was Dilbagh Singh, and his mother's name was Krishna Rathi. Ashok Tanwar did his B.A. from Kakatiya University, Warangal. After this, he went to the Centre for Historical Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University, and from here he completed his M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D.
