Assam News:  Assam has witnessed a total of 1400 cases of murder, rape and dacoity in starting 8 months of 2023, significantly lower than the previous five years in the same period. The Chief Minister of State, Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the crime numbers on his X account on Thursday. He attributed the falling rate of crime to the commitment of his party's government.

In his post, he wrote, "Our commitment to making Assam a crime-free state is making positive strides in the right direction."

Similarly, the instances of rape have gone down from 1,922 in 2021 to 1,113 in 2022. Dacoity and related crimes have also seen a dip as the numbers significantly fell from 198 in 2019 to 85 in 2022.

CM Sarma credited his government's proactive measures in mitigating the menace of crime. He listed active police patrolling, increased efficiency in crime management, use of forensics, greater people-police coordination and firm support from the government of Assam as the reasons behind the sharp dip in the crime numbers.
