Assam Elephant Death: At least 8 elephants died after the Saurang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express collided with them in Assam's Lumding division on Saturday morning. The officials stated that the collision happened when a herd of wild elephants was crossing the railway line, reported Jagran.com. While providing details, they stated that the visibility in the morning hours has been affected due to the presence of dense fog, leading to the tragic accident. The collision was so severe that it caused derailment of the train's engine and five coaches.

However, the officials emphasised that none of the passengers got injured due to the accident. They further stated that the incident has disrupted train services in Upper Assam and other Northeast regions, leading to inconveniences. The railway authorities have launched rescue operations, and special arrangements are being made to provide alternative transportation for passengers.

"At about 02.17 am, in the Jamunamukh - Kampur section under Lumding Division of N.F. Railway, Train no. 20507 DN Sairang - New Delhi Rajdhani Express dashed with elephants, resulting in derailment of the locomotive and five coaches of the train. No casualties or injuries to any passenger have occurred," Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway Kapinjal Kishore Sharma informed.

"Accident Relief trains, along with officials from the divisional HQ, are already at the site," he added. Apart from this, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials stated that accident relief trains have arrived at the site. “However, there are no casualties or injuries to any passenger. The area is about 126 km away from Guwahati. Accident relief trains, along with officials from the divisional headquarters, are already at the site,” the NFR said in a statement.

“The derailed train, after detaching the affected coaches, has left the site for Guwahati. Once the train reaches Guwahati, additional coaches will be added to accommodate the passengers of the affected coaches, and the train will resume its journey,” the statement added.
