Assam Flood: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that floods have affected over 22,000 people across six districts, Biswanath, Cachar, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon, and Sonitpur. At least five rivers, Dikhou, Disang, Dhansiri, Barak, and Kushiyara, crossed danger levels on Tuesday due to heavy rains, according to a bulletin issued by the ASDMA. In the past 24 hours, the floods have claimed two lives in Golaghat district, one of the worst-hit regions.

Water Release From Doyang Hydro Electric Project Caused Flood 

The sudden release of water from the Doyang Hydro Electric Project by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) has triggered a sharp rise in the water levels of the Dhansiri and Doyang rivers, causing widespread flooding in parts of Golaghat district. Officials confirmed that several areas are witnessing an intense flow of floodwater, leaving residents in distress.

Assam Floods: NDRF Rescue Operation 

In response, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched rescue operations across the affected regions. During the operations, teams successfully evacuated 381 people along with 28 livestock to safer locations, providing much-needed relief to those impacted by the flood.

Assam Floods: Relief Camps 

Meanwhile, five revenue circles, Golaghat, Khumtai, Morongi, Sarupathar, and Bokakhat, have been hit by floods, affecting 56 villages and displacing 4,548 people. Authorities have opened 15 relief camps, but officials admit that ongoing relief measures are yet to fully meet the needs of those impacted.
