Four people were arrested after they killed a hog deer at Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The authorities at the national park found the body of the hunted deer near Koilakhat village of Golaghat district on Tuesday after which they launched an investigation and nabbed four people who were involved in the killing of the endangered species, the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) said in a statement on Thursday.
The national park authorities formed a team composed of Bokakhat Range Officer, an investigating officer and 10 armed personnel and rushed to the spot after they were informed about the incident. The authorities also employed a departmental sniffer dog Leon, who traced the escape path of the poachers, the statement read.
"Along this trail, items of interest were recovered, including an iron spear believed to be the murder weapon, a bamboo stick and a distinctive grey-coloured cap," it added. The KNP authorities stated that an accused fled towards Diflu Tea Estate, but he was apprehended eventually, reported news agency PTI.

After interrogation, it was revealed that the accused was directly involved in the poaching of the hog deer along with his three accomplices, who were arrested on Wednesday.
"This swift and decisive action reflects the unwavering commitment of the authorities to combat illegal wildlife activities. The collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the community remain pivotal in safeguarding the precious fauna and upholding the sanctity of protected areas like Kaziranga National Park," the statement said.
