A newborn baby who had been pronounced dead by doctors at a private hospital in Assam’s Silchar was miraculously discovered to be alive just moments before the scheduled cremation. The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning, leaving locals enraged over the hospital administration and doctors for their negligence.

Ratan Das (29), the child’s father, had taken his six-month pregnant wife to a private hospital in Silchar on Tuesday evening. The doctors informed them of complications during the pregnancy and presented a grim choice that they could save either the mother or the child.

Despite the difficult situation, the couple allowed the doctors to proceed with the delivery. To their dismay, they were later informed that their wife had given birth to a stillborn child. The hospital handed over the baby’s lifeless body along with an official death certificate, as reported by Hindustan Times.

On Wednesday morning, as the family prepared for the cremation at Silchar crematorium, they opened the packet containing their child’s body. Reportedly, to their surprise, they heard the cry of the baby, realising that their child was alive, following which they immediately rushed back to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Local residents expressed outrage over the hospital’s actions and also staged a protest in front of the hospital. They claimed that hospital authorities had treated the newborn like garbage by keeping him inside a packet for more than eight hours without properly examining whether he was alive.

The family members of the newborn have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against both the hospital and the doctor involved. However, local police declined to comment on this matter.
