On February 10, Assam's Chief Minister shared on Twitter that an FIR has been filed against several YouTubers and social media influencers for promoting obscenity in the show "India's Got Latent." Notable figures mentioned in the complaint include Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina.

The Guwahati Crime Branch has registered the case, citing multiple legal sections such as 79, 95, 294 and 296 of the BNS 2023, alongside Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000 and various provisions of the Cinematograph Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. The investigation is currently ongoing.

Guwahati Joint Police Commissioner Ankur Jain stated, "We have got one FIR explaining how these YouTubers have made comments on the father, mother, and child relationship and how they represented this in a very obscene manner during a YouTube show. The main host was Samay Raina, and the person who made the controversial comment is Ranveer Allahbadia. We are working to identify all those involved and will take the strictest measures possible in this case."

The controversy erupted following a remark made by Allahbadia during a segment of the show, which has drawn sharp criticism from social media users. Many have expressed outrage over his comments, leading to the filing of a complaint against him, along with other participants and the show's organisers.

Mumbai Police Visits India's Got Latent Studio

In addition to the FIR in Assam, a complaint has also been filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women's Commission against Allahbadia, Makhija, Raina and the show's organisers. Meanwhile, a team from the Mumbai Police has visited the Khar studio where "India's Got Latent" was filmed.

The letter accompanying the complaints has called for strict legal action against those named. Critics have stated that the comments made during the show crossed the line of acceptable discourse, prompting legal and social scrutiny.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Weighs In

In response to the uproar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis commented on the matter. He acknowledged being aware of the issue but stated he had not yet viewed the content in question. Fadnavis expressed that while freedom of speech is important, it should not infringe upon the rights of others. He added that if any individual violates societal norms, appropriate action should be taken against them.
