A 4.4 magnitude earthquake has hit Assam's Sonitpur at 8:03 Am on Monday, the National Centre for Seismology informed. The Earthquake had originated at a depth of 15 KM in Sonitpur region, the NCS informed.

The termors of the earthquake were felt in Guwahati and other nearby regions as well. Sonitpur is district is in the extended list of upper-Assam region and its district headquarters is in Tezpur. So far no report of death, as a direct result of earthquake, has emerged from the region. 

On Sunday, mild tremors were also felt in Delhi as a 6 magnitude earthquake shook the border region between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. However, that erathquake had originated very deep in the ground which considerably reduced its damaging potential.
