Delhi Water Minister Atishi was admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday after her health deteriorated during her indefinite hunger strike. The protest, now in its fifth day, demands to compel the Haryana government to release 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to Delhi as the Union Territory is facing a severe water crisis.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that doctors advised hospitalising Atishi due to significantly low blood pressure and sugar levels, which they described as dangerous. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said that Atishi's blood sugar level had plummeted to 36, necessitating immediate medical attention.

"Her blood sugar levels had been dropping since last night. When we submitted her blood sample, her sugar levels came out to be 46. When we checked her sugar levels from a portable machine, her sugar levels came out to be 36... Doctors are checking her vitals and only after that will they give suggestions," Sourabh Bharadwaj said.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that Atishi's protest is not for personal gain but for the people of Delhi, demanding the Haryana government open the gates of Hathnikund Barrage to ensure Delhi receives its rightful water share.
Atishi began her hunger strike on June 22 to protest Haryana's failure to release Delhi's share of water, which the AAP alleges has exacerbated the water shortage affecting 28 lakh residents in Delhi. The ongoing water crisis in Delhi has been particularly severe due to high temperatures and severe heatwave conditions over the past two months.
