A lot has changed since the state's previous assembly election, which took place in 2019. The BJP-led NDA gained the majority the previous time, but the Shiv Sena left the BJP-led alliance to establish the government with the Congress and NCP under the banner of the Maha Vikas Aghadi back in 2019. In 2022, the party was divided into two groups, one of which joined the BJP-led Mahayuti and formed the government led by Eknath Shinde. Shinde's group was given the original party name.

Last year, the NCP was divided into two parties: one with the original name under Ajit Pawar and another under Sharad Pawar. Today's election results will reflect how voters in Aurangabad and the rest of the state perceive the rearrangement of battle lines in the fight.
