Ayodhya Airport Opening Date: The national aviation regulator, DGCA issued the aerodrome licence to the Ayodhya airport which is nearing its completion. Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Thursday apprised that the airport has been granted the 'all weather conditions' aerodrome licence in the public use category. The airport which is being built at Rs 350 crore will cater to the pilgrims coming from different parts of the country to visit Ram Mandir. Notably, the Ram Temple construction is also nearing its completion with January 22 set as the date for the consecration ceremony.
All Weather DGCA Licence Issued
AAI shared the information related to the DGCA licence in a series of posts on social media platform X after AAI Chairman Sanjeev Kumar received the license from DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) chief Vikram Dev Dutt.
"The airport has a 2,200m long runway with complete Aeronautical Ground Lights (AGLs) infrastructure and is supported by DVOR & Instrument Landing System (ILS) which allows the aerodrome to accommodate flights at night and during low visibility/RVR 550m," the post read. DVOR stands for Doppler Very High-Frequency Omni Range, aiding in aircraft navigation, while RVR stands for Runway Visual Range.

With a carrying capacity of 10 lakh passengers per year
The much-awaited Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport of Ayodhya will have a terminal building with an area of 6,500 sqm, equipped to handle 600 passengers during peak hours and 10 lakh passengers annually, AAI further said in the release. The airport code has also been assigned. A runway measuring 2200 meters in length and 45 meters in width, has been constructed, capable of accommodating Airbus A320 flights.
The Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport at Ayodhya has an extended runway suitable for A-321/B-737-type aircraft operations.
First Flight On December 30
On Wednesday, IndiGo said it will operate the inaugural flight from the national capital to Ayodhya Airport on December 30 and the commercial services will commence on January 6.
Indigo to run these flights
The first flight from Delhi is scheduled to land in Ayodhya on December 30, 2023. Afterwards, regular commercial flights connecting Delhi and Ayodhya will begin on January 6, 2024, and tri-weekly flights linking Ahmedabad and Ayodhya are set to commence on January 11, 2024.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, on December 8, said the airport at Ayodhya will be ready by the end of this month and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the airport.
