The Maharashtra government has formed a Commission of Inquiry for a probe into the alleged encounter of Akshay Shinde, the accused of the Badlapur school sexual assault case. Providing the details, a home department gazette published on Tuesday stated that the single-member Commission of Inquiry will be headed by Dilip Bhosale, the Chief Justice (retired), Allahabad High Court.
As per the gazette, the panel is instructed to submit its detailed report in three months. The probe will look into whether any individual or a group was responsible behind the case. The panel will also investigate whether the action taken by the police was necessary or not. The state government formed the commission after the Bombay High Court expressed its concerns over the encounter. The court pointed out that the encounter could be avoided and a fair investigation is needed to clear the picture. Earlier, the family of the deceased claimed that the police had framed a fake story to kill Akshay, and he was 'too weak to kill a mosquito.'
Akshay Shinde encounter case
Akshay Shinde, accused in the Badlapur school sexual assault case, was arrested and allegedly encountered by the Maharashtra police on September 23 as he tried to flee from the custody and shot a policeman, as per the details provided by the police. The police claimed that the action was taken in self-defense as Akshay could harm more police officials. A massive controversy sparked as the news of the encounter broke out. Several opposition leaders, including Shivsena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray and NCP (Sharad) leader Supriya Sule. However, the deputy chief minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis, accused the opposition leaders of doing pity politics in the matter and justified the action taken by the police. Two girls, aged four and five years, were allegedly sexually abused by a male attendant inside the toilet of a school at Badlapur in Thane district in August.
