A man from Bengal, identified as Dilip Choudhary, has been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch for threatening and demanding Rs 1 crore from Comedian Kapil Sharma via email. In the email, the accused intimidated the comedian by introducing himself as a member of the Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara gang and cited notorious criminal networks.
Following the incident, the Mumbai Crime Branch has now apprehended a man, identified as a resident of the North 24 Parganas, reported Hindustan Times. The officials added that the accused contacted the comedian multiple times, making threatening phone calls and sending intimidating videos.
Kapil Sharma reportedly received approximately seven such calls on September 22 and 23. Authorities have said that the accused will be in police custody until September 30. The police are currently investigating his links with the gangsters, as claimed by him.

MNS Issues Threat To Kapil Sharma’s Show
In a separate incident, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had recently issued a warning to Sharma's comedy show, The Great Indian Kapil Show.
The incident follows a celebrity guest referring to the city by its former name, "Bombay." In response, MNS leader Ameya Khopkar posted a "request-cum-warning" on X (formerly Twitter).
"Even though 30 years have passed since Bombay was officially renamed Mumbai, the term Bombay is still frequently used in Bollywood's Kapil Sharma Show celebrity guests, Delhi-based Rajya Sabha MPs, show anchors, and in many Hindi films. It was officially recognised by the Maharashtra Government in 1995 and by the Central Government in 1996, even before Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Therefore, a humble request-cum-warning is being issued to respect this and use the name Mumbai," wrote Khopkar on her official social media handle X (formerly Twitter).
