Bengal Politics: A scuffle broke out at Netaji Subhash Chandra Airport in Kolkata ahead of the arrival of Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee from Delhi. As per the reports, the Trinamool leaders confronted the miscreants who had allegedly arrived at the airport with eggs to hurl at Banerjee. The leaders of TMC and BJP also got involved in a minor physical fight at the airport.

While describing the incident, the TMC supporters alleged that a "BJP person" arrived at the airport with some miscreants. They further alleged that the people carried eggs in their hands, adding that a BJP worker came with arms to murder the nephew of Mamata Banerjee. The supporters of Abhishek Banerjee also questioned how the BJP supporters could bring firearms onto the airport premises, which are protected under heavy security.

"We requested them not to initiate this culture, they said we taught them this...They started misbehaving with our people...We requested the CRPF to remove them...They took out their arms at the airport, how can they bring arms in the presence of the airport authority?," an Abhishek Banerjee supporter was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.

Sukanta Majumdar, a senior BJP leader and union minister, was also present at the airport and urged the people to maintain law and order and have faith in the law. However, a video later suggested that the TMC general secretary arrived at his residence safely along with party Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee.

Earlier on Friday, Banerjee met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and sought the disqualification of 20 rebel MPs amid a split in the party. "20 MPs of TMC met the Speaker 3-4 days ago and claimed to form their separate group. As per the media, they have claimed to be treated as a separate group. Then, 2-4 of them claimed a few hours later to have merged with NCPI, which none of us had heard of. I, as the Leader of Lok Sabha of TMC, have submitted 20 different disqualification petitions," Banerjee said.
