The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday raided several locations related to Prasanna Roy, a middleman in teachers recruitment scam. According to ED, they conducted search operations at seven places in and around Kolkata in connection with its probe into the alleged irregularities in recruitment in schools of West Bengal's 24 Parganas.

Raids are being held at the residences and offices of those who allegedly "acted as middlemen" in the scam, an ED official said. "These middlemen used to collect money and transfer it to various addresses. We are conducting raids at residences and offices used by them," the official said.

According to the officers, they were accompanied by a huge number of central forces when the ED officers started search operations at New Town and Nayabad on the eastern fringes of Kolkata.

While the raids were underway, family members of the alleged middlemen were also being questioned. The officials added that ED officers are yet to enter one of the offices of a middleman since it was closed.

Last week, ED conducted raids at the residences of three Trinamool Congress leaders, including West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose, in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment across municipalities in the State. They also conducted searches at the residence of Trinamool Congress MLA Tapas Roy and former chairperson of North Dumdum Municipality Subodh Chakraborty’s residence. In December, the probe agency conducted raids at 9 locations.
