Election Results 2026: The election results on May 4 dethroned three parties- Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu and CPI-M in Kerala. While the BJP registered historic victory against the Mamata Banerjee-led party in West Bengal, the newly formed TVK, under the leadership of Vijay, defeated the DMK to emerge as the single largest party. Congress, after a decade, managed to defeat the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala. The winning parties have now begun the process of selecting the chief ministers.

West Bengal: Who Could Be The CM?

The saffron party had not declared any CM face during its campaign; however, Suvendu Adhikari was the most active regional leader. Along with serving as the leader of opposition in the West Bengal assembly, Adhikari also contested against Mamata Banerjee in her fortress, Bhabanipur. While Adhikari is the frontrunner, there are other contenders too, including Agnimitra Paul, Dilip Ghosh, and Samik Bhattacharya.

Who Are The Frontrunners In Kerala?

Congress successfully managed to end the ten year rule of Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF in Kerala. However, the party is reportedly dealing with internal conflicts for the chief minister's post. Congress had similar situation in other states, including Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. The current frontrunners for the top post are VD Satheesan, party general secretary KC Venugopal, and Ramesh Chennithala.

Vijay Surprises In Tamil Nadu

TVK, under the leadership of actor-turned politician Vijay, emerged as the single largest party, proving most of the pollsters wrong. However, the newly-formed marginally fell short of the majority mark and would require support from other parties to form its government. Vijay remains the frontrunner for the CM post, but he would be required to negotiate either with the Congress, AIADMK or other regional parties. The declaration of chief ministers in these states is likely by the end of this week.
