Bengal Weather: The Regional Meteorological Centre on Wednesday issued an orange alert for very heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and related weather events in several districts of West Bengal over the next few days. According to the meteorological department, thunderstorms are likely across South Bengal, including Kolkata.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued an orange alert for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Kalimpong until September 18.
Additionally, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Bankura, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Purulia districts.
Bengal Weather: Heavy Rain Alert in These Districts Until September 19
A yellow alert for heavy rain remains in effect across West Bengal until September 19, impacting Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, Murshidabad, Malda, Dakshin and Uttar Dinajpur, Bankura, Purulia, Bardhaman, Birbhum, and East and West Midnapore.
On Saturday, scattered thunderstorms are expected in all districts of South Bengal. A meteorological official explained, “There is a cyclonic circulation over East Bihar and adjacent areas, along with another over the southeast Bay of Bengal. Two additional systems near northeast Bangladesh and central Assam are causing moisture to flow in from the Bay of Bengal. This is leading to rainfall across South Bengal, with the possibility of heavy rain in some places.”
Thunderstorms are also likely on Friday in North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda districts.
Meanwhile, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, slightly above normal by 0.2 degrees, while the maximum temperature on Tuesday was 31.1 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees below normal.
