Bengal Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms in Kolkata and six other South Bengal districts. Along with the rain, there will be gusty winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometres. Kolkata has been witnessing rain since Thursday morning. Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, West Burdwan and Hooghly districts of South Bengal.

“Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation a low pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal at 0830 hours IST of today, June 26,” IMD said in its bulletin.

“It is likely to move west-northwest wards across north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall very likely in some districts of South Bengal during next 2 days and thereafter due to presence of strong monsoon flow, light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall likely in some districts of West Bengal,” IMD added.

South Bengal Weather Alert

June 26: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Purulia and Jhargram districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorms with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.

June 27: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, West Burdwan and Hooghly districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.

June 28: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal.

June 29: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Bankura, Hooghly, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum and West Midnapore districts of South Bengal.

North Bengal Weather Alert

June 26: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of North Bengal.

June 27: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of North Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and North Dinajpur districts also thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of North Bengal.

June 28: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of North Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar and Alipurduar districts of North Bengal.

June 29: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of North Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts of North Bengal.

June 30: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of North Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts of North Bengal.
