Bengal Weather: A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for West Bengal by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for today, May 28. Through the end of the month, especially strong spells are expected across the Gangetic and Sub-Himalayan areas. The warning is in effect till May 31.
The IMD reports that from May 27 to May 31, the state is anticipated to see sporadic to moderately widespread rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph.
From May 27 to May 31, Gangetic West Bengal is expected to see isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim might get extremely heavy rain from May 29 to May 31.
A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of Odisha has contributed to the monsoon's intensification and will likely become more pronounced over the course of 24 hours.
IMD Issued Alerts For THESE Districts
The IMD issued warnings for some parts of Bengal because of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. While Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar in North Bengal may have extremely heavy rainfall on May 29, areas in South Bengal, including North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, and Howrah, may experience heavy rainfall on the same day.
East and West Burdwan, Bankura, South 24 Parganas, and Hooghly are all expected to have severe to extremely heavy rain on May 30. Parts of Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Darjeeling may see exceptionally high rainfall.
