Bengal Weather: The low pressure has acted as a catalyst for the monsoon, which entered North Bengal on May 29. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), KolkataGangetic South Bengal, including Kolkata, will witness clear skies on Friday afternoon. Humid and uncomfortable conditions are likely to develop in South Bengal today. As per the weather body, South Bengal districts are likely to experience intense heat from June 2. Meanwhile, excessive rain is expected in the North. North Bengal is forecast to experience intermittent moderate to heavy rains till Saturday, May 31. The southern districts of Nadia and Murshidabad are likely to experience scattered moderate to heavy rain on Friday.

“The deep depression over coastal West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh moved slowly northeastwards with a speed of 5 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 1730 hours IST of May 29, 2025 over the same region near latitude 22.2° N and longitude 88.6° E, about close to Canning (India) and 100 km west-southwest of Mongla (Bangladesh). It is very likely to move nearly north-northeastwards and weaken into a depression during next 12 hours and into a well-marked low-pressure area during subsequent 24 hours,” IMD, Kolkata, said in its bulletin.

Forecast And Warning For North Bengal

May 30: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely at most places over north Bengal with Heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Coochbehar districts of North Bengal, Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over rest districts of North Bengal.

May 31: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely at most places over north Bengal with Heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over Alipurduar districts of North Bengal. Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Coochbehar districts of North Bengal.

June 1: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely at most places over north Bengal with Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling & Kalimpong, district of North Bengal.

Forecast And Warning For South Bengal

May 30: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely at most places over South Bengal with Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over North & South 24 Parganas, Nadia and Murshidabad districts of South Bengal.

May 31: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely at many places over South Bengal with thunderstorms with lightning likely to occur at one or two places over East & West Burdwan, Birbhum & Murshidabad districts of South Bengal.
