Bengal Weather: The Alipore Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain activity in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar until next Thursday, August 7. Meanwhile, scattered rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in Kolkata on Friday and Saturday. Winds are likely to blow at the speed of 30 to 40 kmph during this period. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail in other South Bengal districts including - Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, East Burdwan, Murshidabad and Nadia.

“Under the presence of above meteorological conditions and strong moisture incursion, widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall activity with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places likely over North Bengal during August 2-4,” RMC, Kolkata stated in its bulletin on Friday.

August 2: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) very likely to occur at a few places, Extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Jalpaigur and Alipurduar districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar districts. Heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over North Dinajpur district of North Bengal

August 3: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) very likely to occur at a few places. Extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Jalpaigur and Alipurduar districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar districts.
