Bengal Weather: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert For Southern Districts; Will It Rain In Kolkata? Check Forecast

Bengal Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that several districts of West Bengal are likely to witness very heavy rainfall on Wednesday. As per the weather department, the southern districts are expected to receive extremely heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in the late hour of Wednesday. It further stated that the rainfall will continue on Thursday, causing inconveniences to the locals.

In its advisory, the IMD stated that a weather system over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression earlier on Monday evening. It is further likely to strengthen in the coming two days before crossing the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast.

Bengal: Heavy Rain Likely In These Regions

While providing details, it stated that heavy rain is expected in multiple districts, including South and North 24-Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, West Burdwan, Birbhum, and Howrah in the coming days. The continuous intense rainfall is likely to lead to waterlogging in the lower regions, causing inconvenience to the local commuters.

"The well-marked low-pressure area over the west-central and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards, intensified into a depression and lay centred at 5.30pm on Monday over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal," the IMD said.

North Bengal Weather Update

The weather department stated that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in multiple North Bengal districts, such as Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Alipurduar, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, Uttar Dinajpur, and Dakshin Dinajpur, at least till Thursday. Apart from this, very heavy rainfall is likely in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar on Friday, the IMD added.

Kolkata Weather

While the residents of Kolkata are expected to witness thunderstorms and strong surface winds, the 'city of joy' is not likely to witness any major rainfall in the next two days.

Advisory For Fishermen

The fishermen of all the coastal districts have been advised to follow the guidelines and limit their financial activities during the rain activities.
