Bengal Weather: As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata, a low-pressure area is likely to form over West-central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal around May 27. Under its influence heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to commence from May 28 over some districts of South Bengal. The minimum temperature in Kolkata on Monday was 27.8 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the maximum temperature in the city was recorded 32.1 degrees Celsius. The weather body has issued heavy rain warning for Hooghly, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum on Friday and Birbhum and Murshidabad on Saturday. Heavy rain is also likely in Kolkata on Thursday. Additionally, pre-monsoon rains have begun in North Bengal. The Meteorological Department has forecast early monsoon in Bengal as well.

“The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of West Central and North Bay of Bengal, and some more parts of Mizoram, some parts of Manipur and Nagaland today, the 25th May 2025. Conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of West Central & North Bay of Bengal and some more parts of Northeastern states during next 3 days. Also, in presence of favourable wind pattern and moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, thunderstorm with gusty winds and lightning activity likely to continue during next 4 to 5 days,” IMD, Kolkata mentioned in its bulletin.

South Bengal Weather

May 26: Thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), lightning and light to moderate rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, East & West Midnapore, Jhargram, Murshidabad districts of South Bengal.

May 27: Thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), lightning and light to moderate rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over North and South 24 Parganas, East & West Midnapore, Jhargram, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia districts of South Bengal.

May 28: Thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), lightning and light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal. Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) is likely to occur at one or two places over North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore districts of South Bengal.

North Bengal Weather

May 26: Thunderstorms with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), lightning and light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of North Bengal.

May 27 And 28: No Warning

May 29: Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Jalpaiguri, Coochbear, Alipurduar districts of North Bengal.

May 20: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, Coochbehar districts of North Bengal. Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) is likely to occur at one or two places over rest districts of North Bengal.

Advisory For Fishermen

Squally weather with wind speed 35 - 45 kmph very likely over Central Bay and adjoining North Bay of Bengal from May 28 till further notice and off West Bengal- Odisha coast from May 29 till further notice. Sea conditions are likely to be moderate to rough. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea from May 28 and along and off West Bengal-Odisha coast from May 29.
