The India Meteorological Department (IMD), has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in Kolkata. The city’s seven-day forecast indicates more spells of rain and thunderstorms extending into next week, with the heaviest activity expected through October 4.
Bengal Weather Update: Southern Districts On Alert Till Oct 7
A low-pressure system is expected to bring significant rainfall to South Bengal, with most districts likely experiencing light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Specifically:
- Heavy Rainfall Alert: Isolated areas in Birbhum district may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall today.
- Districts Under Watch: East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, South 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, East and West Burdwan, and Bankura districts are forecast to experience heavy rainfall at one or two places today and Friday.
- Weather Conditions: Thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected, with wind speeds potentially reaching 30-40 km/h.

Orange Alert
- Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar districts are under an orange alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall, with amounts ranging from 7-20 cm.
