Delhi Weather Update: Delhi is expected to receive more rain and thunderstorms on Friday, October 3, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city is likely to see spells of light to moderate showers during the day, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph. The IMD said conditions may remain unsettled until the evening, keeping skies mostly cloudy.
The wet spell, which began on Thursday during Dussehra, was triggered by a western disturbance. The system, moving from the Mediterranean region towards northern India, often causes rain and storms during October and winter months. Officials said the disturbance will continue to influence Delhi’s weather through Friday before easing briefly.

Delhi Rain
On Thursday, the rainfall pattern varied across the city. Pitampura recorded the highest amount at 20 mm, followed by Ridge with 15.4 mm and Janakpuri with 19 mm. Safdarjung, the base station for Delhi’s weather, logged 14 mm of rainfall until 8.30 pm. Palam saw 8.6 mm, Ayanagar 2 mm, Pusa 6.5 mm and Mayur Vihar 10 mm, while Lodhi Road reported only drizzle.
Delhi Temperature
Despite the showers, temperatures remained largely unaffected. IMD officials noted that the weather would stay cooler under cloudy conditions but no major dip in day or night temperatures was recorded.
Delhi Weather Forecast
Looking ahead, the forecast suggests a short dry spell on October 4, with partly cloudy skies expected. However, rainfall is predicted to return from October 5 onwards. A yellow alert has already been issued for October 6, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds throughout the day. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially in open areas.
The seven-day forecast shows intermittent changes in Delhi’s weather. On October 5, rain and thunderstorms are expected again, followed by a day of heavy activity on October 6 under the yellow alert. The weather on October 7 and 8 may remain cloudy with chances of rain or thundershowers in parts of the city.

Why Is It Raining
The IMD explained that this period of rain is unrelated to the monsoon, which has already withdrawn. Instead, western disturbances are common during this time of the year and often bring sudden downpours and thunderstorms.
With cloudy skies and intermittent rain predicted, residents can expect wet conditions to continue into the weekend, particularly on Sunday when rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning may disrupt normal activities.
