Karnataka Minister for Infrastructure MB Patil announced that seven locations have been shortlisted for Bengaluru's proposed second airport. The minister stated that a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the submission of an application to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) following which further action will be taken for the airport construction.
MB Patil on Monday held discussions with IDeCK [Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Limited] and the global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Initially, IDeCK had identified nine potential sites, but two were later deemed non-feasible. BCG representatives shared insights from their experience with the Navi Mumbai airport project and visual presentations from both entities were reviewed during the meeting.
Harohalli and Dobbaspet, situated around 50-60 km from Bengaluru, are the leading contenders. Other potential sites include areas near Tumakuru, Koratagere, Kunigal, Huliyurdurga, and Malavalli, as reported by Times Now.
"We will submit an application to AAI, detailing all seven identified locations. AAI officials will then visit the sites to assess feasibility. The final decision will consider factors such as passenger density, connectivity, industrial growth, cargo potential, and environmental aspects like rivers, hills, and biodiversity," Patil stated.

The minister highlighted that the site selection for the second airport would be based on about 15 parameters set by AAI, focusing on the holistic development of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, rather than political considerations.
Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru City Development Minister D K Shivakumar highlighted that MB Patil has conducted several rounds of meetings with various stakeholders about the second airport. The government aims to complete the airport by 2033.

In July, MB Patil mentioned that around 4,500-5,000 acres would be required for the proposed airport, which is expected to accommodate 100 million passengers annually. The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) at Devanahalli is projected to reach its capacity limits by 2035, making the second airport essential for future growth.
