Bengaluru: Logistics company BlackBuck has clarified that it is not shifting operations out of Bengaluru, but only relocating its office within the city. The announcement came after public concern that the startup was moving away from the Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor in Bellandur due to poor infrastructure and rising commute challenges.

Co-founder and CEO Rajesh Yabaji had earlier shared on social media that reaching the company’s ORR office had become “very-very hard,” with employees facing commutes of nearly 1.5 hours one way. His remarks sparked debate over Bengaluru’s road conditions, with speculation that the firm might exit the city. Yabaji later clarified that Bengaluru remains the company’s base, though the office will be shifted to another location within the city to ease commuting woes for staff.

BJP Targets Congress Over BeCivic Failures

The clarification, however, has not cooled the political heat. Opposition BJP accused the Congress-led government of corruption and civic neglect, linking BlackBuck’s decision to the state of Bengaluru’s roads. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that citizens were left with “death traps” despite paying high taxes. He described the government’s functioning as “loot, jhoot and phoot,” accusing it of scams, broken promises, and internal rivalries.

Congress Response

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who oversees Bengaluru development, defended the administration. He said more than 7,000 potholes have been filled, with another 5,000 to be addressed. Shivakumar maintained that heavy rains were the primary reason for recurring potholes, while stressing that citizens now have a reporting system to flag road issues directly to authorities.

He also countered BJP’s criticism, pointing out that each MLA, including those from the opposition, had been allocated Rs 25 crore for constituency works. “Let them first use their funds to fix roads before playing politics,” Shivakumar said.

Civic Woes Continue

The incident highlights how infrastructure issues are affecting not only citizens but also businesses. With three deaths linked to potholes reported this year in Bengaluru, public frustration remains high. BlackBuck’s relocation has brought fresh attention to the urgent need for lasting solutions to the city’s road crisis.
